The Solar Revolution Is Bigger Than We Imagined!
Will our transport system ever become so fast that we will be doing our daily commutes at the speed of sound? One man thinks it is possible. Back in 2013, Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, was the man who first floated the idea of supersonic, high-speed intercity transportation. As expected, the world scoffed and laughed at him.
But guess what? Teleportation is no longer science fiction. It’s about to become reality and it seems like Elon Musk will be having the last laugh now.
Elon Musk is the genius who first envisioned the idea of a low-pressure tube with solar-powered pods inside to carry passengers between destinations at super-high speeds. Musk’s plan was to introduce an alternative to California’s high-speed train, which he finds both costly and slow.
His proposed supersonic pods will not only transport passengers, but also cars. In fact, Musk’s SpaceX is quietly working on the project, dubbed “Hyperloop Alpha.” However, instead of keeping it a corporate secret, the visionary leader revealed its nitty-gritties to the world. A complete blueprint of Musk’s proposition was made available on SpaceX’s web site. (Source: “Hyperloop Alpha,” SpaceX, last accessed January 20, 2016.)
And that’s where it all started!
From there, this revolutionary idea was picked up by two private companies, one of which has, this week, reached a ground-breaking milestone. (Source: “Hyperloop Transportation Technologies Breaks Ground To Make Elon Musk’s Hyperloop A Reality,” TechCrunch, January 20, 2016.)
A private company, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies (interestingly named after Musk’s envisioned project), is giving final touches to their five-mile test track for a Hyperloop tube.
Their ultimate goal? A transport service between Washington D.C. and New York City that will complete the one-way journey in under 30 minutes! (Normally, that’s a four-hour drive.)
Many brains from Tesla, SpaceX, NASA, and Boeing are on board and the company has already started raising funds for the project. Meanwhile, another similarly named company, Hyperloop Technologies, is also working on making this dream a reality.
The best part is that this revolution is about to validate Elon Musk’s prophecy. Three years ago, the man made a wacky prediction that all transportation, except space travel, will be solar-powered in the future. With oil and natural gas prices falling, the idea was initially hard to stomach.
Take note that this next-generation technology will, sooner or later, be commercialized and will drive high demand for that one thing that is sold by the two companies that Musk either heads as a CEO or as a chairman. Yes, solar energy will receive a massive boost and who will be receiving all those big supply orders for solar batteries? You guessed it: Tesla’s Gigafactory!
Long story short: naysayers watch out, because the solar revolution has begun!
