The Next Big Thing for BlackBerry Stock?
BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) stock has been quietly inching up on the charts and now we know the reason why. It appears that the company may just have a winner on its hands as it goes on to announce its new device, which could be a big deal for BlackBerry stock.
The BlackBerry “DTEK60” was apparently leaked on the company web site for a brief period, but long enough for tech bloggers to take notice. The device looks to be a bigger and better version of the BlackBerry “DTEK50,” which was released earlier this year and was marketed as the “world’s most secure Android.”
From what can be gauged from the leaked screenshots, it appears that the DTEK60 will have a bigger screen, faster processor, and possibly a fingerprint-sensor. Although the company spokesperson kept speculation rife by not rejecting the claim, he promised that he would keep us informed of future updates.
The BlackBerry DTEK60 is likely to feature a Quad HD display, a Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) “Snapdragon” processor along with an Android OS. The specifications of the new device have been leaked on the CrackBerry web site (Source: “BlackBerry ‘Argon’ likely to be released as the DTEK60,” CrackBerry, September 20, 2016.)
In June of this year, BlackBerry CEO John Chen had indicated that the company had at least two new Android smartphones. The first in the series was DTEK50, and now we are expecting the second one. The unique selling point of this device would be how secure is it. If it can meet the claims by the company that it would be the most secure Android device, it would turn the tide in favor of BBRY stock and the company.
BlackBerry stock has lost about 70% in the last 10 years. This was the period in which the S&P 500 gained roughly 72%. The poor performance of BBRY stock was primarily due to the unimpressive financial results of BlackBerry Ltd, as well as bad publicity.
As investors look forward to the earnings release on Tuesday, there are high expectations that BlackBerry will announce a new and enhanced device after the release of the BlackBerry DTEK50. It remains to be seen whether the impending announcement of DTEK60 can take the once-dominating smartphone maker to profitability and send BlackBerry stock soaring again.
